Koethe commits to Wisconsin | Iowa Prep Sports

Justin Koethe won?t take any more college visits.

The Iowa City West senior doesn?t need them after making his mind up about where to continue his wrestling career. Koethe has verbally committed to wrestle for the University of Wisconsin and head coach Barry Davis after visiting Madison, Wis., this weekend.

The atmosphere and closeness of the team and that camaraderie influenced him. He chose Wisconsin over Iowa State University, Minnesota, University of Northern Iowa and University of Iowa. He only visited ISU and Minnesota.

?I got down there,? Koethe?said Sunday. ?That?s where I wanted to be.?

Koethe likes the direction of the program, which has become a regular top-10 team. He said he expects more big things in the Badgers future.

?I predict it will be the No. 1 recruiting class this year will be at Wisconsin,? Koethe said. ?I want to be a part of it.?

A recent addition to the Badgers coaching staff also attracted Koethe.?Former Hawkeye All-American and Lisbon native Ryan Morningstar was hired as an assistant during the summer. The two have had a relationship throughout Koethe?s prep career.

?I?ve known Morningstar?since I started high school,? Koethe said. ?I know he?ll be there for me to work and if I need a push.?

Koethe is a three-time state placewinner for the Trojans, owning a 127-15 career record. , and is ranked 20th at 160 pounds by InterMat. He has placed third at the Class 3A state tournament?at 152 and 160 the last two season. He was fourth at 135 as a freshman.

Koethe expects to wrestle 160 again this season, and said he is projected to wrestle 157 in college. He also said he will likely red-shirt his first season, and will sign during the early period in November.
